MONTEPORCINI  COU-B05-34 PRINT
Rentals – Tuscan Countryside – 5  bedrooms

Location:
This vine-covered Tuscan farmhouse villa enjoys a secluded, hilltop location with panoramic views over the rolling hills of the Chianti wine region. It is situated approx. 2 km. from the village of Vagliagli (cafe, post office), less than 10 km. from Castellina-in-Chianti and Radda-in-Chianti (both with traditional food shops, clothing stores, banks, a weekly market and restaurants) and 13 km. from medieval Siena. Florence is approx. an hour by car.

Refurbished as a private country retreat for its city-dwelling Italian owners, the house has a warmth not easily found in most rentals. The central Chianti location makes this house a good starting point for exploring Tuscany and Umbria. The grounds are made up of sloping lawns, olive groves, vineyards and beautiful ancient oaks.
There are approx. 7 km. of mostly unpaved road leading to the property. Parts of the home date to the 1300’s. It has luminous, cosy rooms with the addition of an excellent quality kitchen and bathrooms. There are various shady patios with tables and comfortable chairs for dining and relaxing.

Description:
The stone farmhouse measures approx. 250 square meters and is laid out on two floors. The ground level consists of: an entry hall, a living room (with working fireplace), down 8 steps a sitting room and dining room (fireplace and table for 10) and a kitchen (6-burner stovetop, oven and a wood burning stove). A few steps up lead to a breezeway with doors to the front and back of the house, a book-filled study (fireplace, television, DVD, fax, etc.) and a guest bathroom (sink and toilet only).

Ten steps lead to the upper floor consisting of: 1 bedroom with two twin beds and an ensuite bathroom (shower), another bedroom with two twin beds, two further bedrooms (twins that may be made up as queen beds), the master bedroom (queen-size bed) and two bathrooms (one with tub, one with tub and handshower). There is a vine-covered veranda with wicker chairs and table accessible from this level.

The furnishings are a tasteful mixture of modern and lovely antiques. There are respectfully restored terra cotta floors and wood beam ceilings. Warm colours and fabrics are used throughout the home which is equipped with a dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, stereo, television with satellite and DVD. There are French window/doors leading from the sitting room and the dining room onto pergola-covered patios with outdoor furniture for relaxing and dining.

The un-enclosed swimming pool (13 X 7 meters) is approx. 30 yards from the house, with an outdoor covered dining area and pool furniture. The views are spectacular and the pool is surrounded by ancient oak trees. Beyond the pool, an olive grove and woodlands make for lovely walks.

The onsite staff (husband and wife) live next door in their own home. They take care of the housekeeping, garden and pool maintenance plus prepare breakfast and your choice of either lunch or dinner, for a total of 6-7 hours of cooking/cleaning/shopping per day, 6 days a week (Sundays off). Cost of food, wine and consumables is not included. Extra staff hours are available on request. The care-taking couple (and their teenage son) are friendly yet discreet.

Please note: there are 3 dogs on the property (nice ones). Personal pets discouraged.

Sleeps max. 10.

Positive aspects:
Good views, and a spacious yet cosy house. The outdoor spaces are extremely inviting, with lawns and various areas for al fresco dining and cocktails.

Negative aspects:
Kilometres of unpaved road leading up to the house, one bedroom has an ensuite bathroom, but the other four bedrooms share two full hall bathrooms, and a guest bathroom downstairs.

Our personal opinion:
“An extremely gracious farmhouse, positioned on the side of a hill with stunning views of the Chianti”.

Included:
utilities, cleaning (as outlined above), preparation of breakfast plus either lunch or dinner each day except Sunday, garden and pool maintenance.

Not included:
food and beverages telephone/fax expenses, extra housekeeping, shopping or errands (approx. 10.00 Euro per hour.
